This Best of Missouri Hands artisan has learned the art of glassblowing, rod and torch lampworking techniques over the last 17 years to produce a wide array of beautiful accessories to enhance any lifestyle.

As colorful as the work he produces, he is a joy to be around.

With his stovepipe hat, and his creations for all ages, these objects are affordable treasures.

Opus Palladianum--Mosaics

Laurie's body of work is handcrafted mosaics created in colored mirror and glass for decorative as well as functional use.

Each project starts with a sketch of an original design.

The design is then transfered onto a base (usually of wood cut to shape by hand) and prepared for installation in the direct method.

Using traditional mosaic tools, the colored mirror and glass are hand cut into tesserae (tiles or pieces) varying greatly in size and shape to create visual texture.

The technique generally use to lay the tesserae is called Opus Palladianum or "crazy paving".

Hours and hours are spent meticulously placing the pieces on the base to create a sense of equanimity and detail in the design.

Extrodinary attention is given to creating consistent grout lines, which gives the work heightened character and distinction.
