Welcome to The Best of Missouri Hands Juried Artists
Missouri Art Studio is located in the Garden behind the
Southern Hotel Bed & Breakfast.
The Garden offers something a little
special for our stressful lives and a relaxing time.
We have several potters works displayed in the gallery.
Classic Shapes
Classic shapes - masterfully glazed.
These tall vases are the ultimate expression of the potters skill.
Pottery is one of the oldest professions dating back thousands of years
and the technology has changed very little, only the art of glazing.
Everyday ware pottery
Jeff has been a Best of Missouri Hands jurried artisan since 1997.
The main emphasis of his work is on functional utilitarian pottery
that can be used everyday.
All of the pottery in the gallery is oven, dishwasher and microwave proof.
Jeff even gives you a recipe for baking bread in your pottery.
Wood Ash Glaze
These pieces of pottery are the result of a 2 glaze process.
This magnificent soup tureen and matching soup bowls on the lower shelf
are the result of the 2 glaze process.
After being masterfully thrown a glaze is applied first.
Then a small amount of wood ash is applied with the intent of dripping.
Once in the kiln, this wood ash glaze melts and causes the iron wash
to mix with the other glaze and causes the runs and drips and dark areas.
Of course, the trick is to control the amounts to get the desired effect.
I think you'll agree, he has indeed mastered this art.
Blue and Brown Stone ware
This beautiful pottery reminds me of the old granite ware you
usually associate with the old cowboy movies, where the granite
coffee pot sits on the camp fire.
Ken has perfected this look with a great blend of color and style.
At first glance his tall vase in the first photo of three,
almost appears to be made of glass, look again.
Functional Pottery
Tresa is a professional potter living and working in Central Missouri area.
She was first introduced to throwing pottery while attending State Fair Community
College in Sedalia.
Tresa's pottery is made from stoneware clay. It is both functional and artistic.
You may notice slight variations in the form & glaze of each piece, these are
characteristics of the piece being hand made.
Her pattery is lead-free, micro-wave & dishwasher safe and can be put in the oven.
Pots should not be placed over direct heat or subject to sudden changes of
Temperature.
It is Tresa's desire that you enjoy her pottery, both the function of the piece as
well as the artistic value molded into each work by her talented and creative
touch.
